Lower half of the Big East

10. St. John’s 10-12 (0-10)

I’m not sure which was worst for the program, losing the second leading scorer for the season in Marcus LoVett, or how it was played out. He had the world’s longest day-to-day injury, before the family announced that he was done. Losing because a key player went down can be forgiven, but unnecessary drama doesn’t do an embattled coach well.

9. DePaul 9-12 (2-7)

If this program is going to make progress, the team needs wins outside of Georgetown and St. John’s. There’s talent there, but the Blue Demons need to give players a reason to come to DePaul. Otherwise it’s the same old thing.

8. Georgetown 13-8 (2-7)

Personally speaking, the non-conference was a waste of time. The level of adversity and experience gained so far in Big East play has made these Hoyas far better than “feeling good” beating much inferior teams. But these players played competitively against the better teams in this league and should get their first good win soon.

7. Marquette 13-8 (4-5)

The record is deceiving, as the Golden Eagles have already played both Villanova and Xavier twice. That being said, giving up 90 points against the good teams is beyond concerning. But at least they get the Red Storm twice in February.

6. Butler 15-7  (5-4)

Being the only team to beat Villanova this season brings a ton of credibility, especially when you try to name the next biggest accomplishment. This is a good team capable of doing some damage, but I can’t help but think we already know the ceiling for his team.
