Where Louisville stands

The thing that keeps Louisville around is that they don’t have a dumb loss. Their worst loss has been to Syracuse who’s only a game back from Louisville in the ACC Standings. Louisville did beat this Virginia Tech team in shootout way back when on Jan. 13 at the KFC Yum! Center. Certainly so much has changed. A sweep of a Virginia Tech team who should be feeling good about being a Tournament team would send Louisville to the same standing.

Louisville got trounced to Duke in their first game after receiving news that their 2013 National Championship was going to be taken away from them. For all the information about that, check out our great coverage of the fallout.

That game was their second consecutive loss after falling big time to the Tar Heels.

When these two teams met at the beginning of January, the lineups were slightly different. Louisville was in the midst of starting Malik Williams during ACC play. He was benched when the Cardinals went on a three-game losing streak to start February. He hasn’t seen double-digit minutes in the past two games.

Anas Mahmoud now gets the start which makes sense. The team is searching for answers and they chose to go with the more defensively sound player who averages 3 blocks per game.
