Good Rowsey or Bad Rowsey?

Will Marquette get Andrew Rowsey, the disciplined disher we saw against Georgetown, or Andrew Rowsey, the sulking chucker who struggled at DePaul? Rowsey is fifth in the Big East with 19.7 points per game, but Marquette really excels when he looks to set up his teammates.

Rowsey averages 4.6 assists per game; when he dishes out five or more dimes in a contest, the Golden Eagles are 9-4. However, when the redshirt senior sends out four or fewer assists, Marquette is just 8-8. In the last four games, Rowsey has provided 26 assists and 6 turnovers in the three victories and just one assist and three turnovers in the loss at DePaul.

Rowsey is a phenomenal shooter, but on this team, he is the straw that stirs the drink. Head coach Steve Wojciechowski has emphasized Rowsey’s decision-making all season long. In the biggest game of the season, it is crucial that he stays disciplined on offense. There will be plenty of opportunities for him to score, but he does not need to play hero ball, especially with sophomore sensations Markus Howard and Sam Hauser by his side.

On a lighter note, Saturday will be Rowsey’s senior day game. After spending two years at UNC-Asheville and another one redshirting, no. 30 has been a big part of Marquette’s best moments over the last two seasons.

In his 61 games donning a Golden Eagles uniform, Rowsey has averaged 15.4 points and 3.4 assists per game. He has knocked down over 41 percent of his three-point attempts, and has managed to splash his name across program and national record books. Also, long live #TheThing.
