March Madness: Most-likely upsets to watch for on each seed line
(10) Butler over (7) Arkansas
First off, I will clear: I am a Butler fan. However, I will keep this section as bias-free as I can. Before jumping into the matchup with Arkansas, it is important to note that Butler has won each of their last six first-round games in the NCAA Tournament. While prior experience rarely makes a big difference, this is a program that has historically proven to rise up in the Big Dance, especially in recent years.
In terms of how they match up with Arkansas, this is going to a high-paced, high-scoring game. Even though Butler’s pace ranks in the bottom-half of the nation, this is a team that is not afraid to get out and run. Arkansas plays at a much faster pace and that is evident when you watch them play.
Both teams score a lot of points but Butler has the vastly superior defense, especially due to their lockdown defenders in the backcourt. In addition, Arkansas (3-7) and Butler (3-7) have both struggled mightily away from their home gyms. Considering Detroit (location of the game) is much closer for Butler than Arkansas, I expect the crowd to have a leaning towards BU.
Also, while Arkansas has plenty of talented players, Butler will have the best player on the floor in Kelan Martin. If he gets it going, he could light up the Razorbacks for 30+.
