Stephen F. Austin Basketball: 3 Reasons why the Lumberjacks beat Texas Tech
Reason 3: Right Place, Right Time
The Lumberjacks are getting the Red Raiders at the perfect time which obviously plays well into their favor. Texas Tech has lost five out of their previous seven games. It is worth noting that many of those losses came to great Big 12 teams like Kansas, West Virginia, and even Baylor. However, regardless of opponent, a loss is a big hit to momentum to any team. One has to assume that the Red Raiders come into this game feeling a little icy.
Perhaps a good comparison to how this game may pan out is Texas Tech’s most recent loss to West Virginia. The Mountaineers are statistically near the top of the NCAA in defense, much like Stephen F. Austin. In that game, the Red Raiders were held to 63 points on 45 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. The Red Raiders also only had three players score in double figures in that contest.
Now, I am not saying that this game will turn out exactly like this, but I would anticipate that Stephen F. Austin would like to control the pace of the game. That is what West Virginia does and if they do it successfully, they usually win. If that can occur, the Lumberjacks have a good shot at the Red Raiders.

Like the Texas revolutionary they are named for, the Lumberjacks are leaders (in the NCAA anyway, on defense specifically). Perhaps by the end of Thursday, the team may become as legendary as the real Stephen F. Austin. Rather than the “Father of Texas”, Stephen F. Austin’s basketball team could become the “Champions of Texas.”
