Marquette Basketball: Player reviews for the 2017-18 season

Stats: 4.5 pts – 2.3 reb – 1.4 ast – 50.5% FG – 79.2% FT – 36.7% 3PT
What went well: Defensive versatility
Elliott provided a spark throughout the season, especially on defense. He finished in the 83rd percentile in both steal rate and block rate, the latter of which is especially impressive for a guard. He is just 6’3 and 170 pounds, but he is long and active and does not gamble too often. If Marquette fails to fill its last scholarship with another guard next year, Elliott will play big minutes next to Howard and will defend the opponent’s top guard every night.
Elliott showed off his athleticism all year, with big dunks and high-energy plays. He probably won’t ever be a big-time scorer, but he pitches in everywhere else on the floor and is willing to get his hands dirty.
What to improve on: Ball handling
Elliott played with an injured hand for the entire season, and may need surgery this offseason. A hand injury certainly hinders one’s ball handling, but he still did not look that comfortable with the ball in space. Elliott will need to improve in that area going forward; Howard will need all the ball handling help he can get next season.
