NCAA Basketball: Which school’s alumni would make the best NBA team?
By Logan Butts
Arizona
G – T.J. McConnell
G – Stanley Johnson
F – Andre Iguodala
F – Lauri Markkanen
F – Aaron Gordon
Bench: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Channing Frye, Jason Terry, Richard Jefferson, Solomon Hill, Kobi Simmons, Kadeem Allen
A surprisingly well-balanced and experienced team. They are definitely one of the older teams on the list, but Arizona could give some of the top dogs a run for their money based on playoff experience alone. They have a Finals MVP in Iguodala and championship winners in Terry, Jefferson, and Frye.
Duke
G – Kyrie Irving
G – J.J. Redick
F – Brandon Ingram
F – Jason Tatum
F – Rodney Hood
Bench: Jabari Parker, Justice Winslow, the Plumlee Brothers, Tyus Jones, Quinn Cook, Austin Rivers, Luke Kennard, Luol Deng, Jahlil Okafor
This team would thrive in the modern NBA. Surround Irving with shooters and/or long, rangy defenders, and let them go. Even without much top-level rim protection, they have a good shot at making it to the championship.
Florida
G – Bradley Beal
G – Corey Brewer
F – Chandler Parsons
F – Al Horford
C – Marreese Speights
Bench: Joakim Noah, Dorian Finney-Smith, Udonis Haslem, Devin Robinson
If it were 2012, Florida would be the favorite. But as it stands now, with a broken down Noah and Parsons, the Gators would be relying far too much on Beal and Horford. That pair can take you a long way in this tournament, especially with experienced role players like Brewer and Speights, but they won’t be winning the whole thing.
Indiana
G – Eric Gordon
G – Yogi Ferrell
F – Victor Oladipo
F – OG Anunoby
C – Cody Zeller
Bench: Troy Williams, Noah Vonleh, Thomas Bryant
A fun team that would probably get out and run a lot. Oladipo thrives when the lights get brighter. Indiana could be good for an upset or two.
