NBA Draft 2018: Mock First Round Projections 1.0
20. Minnesota (from Oklahoma City): Lonnie Walker, SG
Shooting is one area Minnesota must address, and with Walker still available at 20th overall, there will be no reason to wait any longer to address it. The Miami Hurricane guard is a two-way player who excels in scoring and will provide the Timberwolves with some much-needed offense to become a legitimate contender.
The most appealing factor Walker brings is his ability to create his own shots. He is far from merely a catch and shoot type of player, which is why he’ll end up going in the first round. Walker and Karl-Anthony Towns should be a duo that will be hard to stop, improving Minnesota’s team dramatically.
19. Atlanta (from Minnesota): Anfernee Simons, SG
Out of IMG Academy in Florida, Simons is one of the few players in this class without exposure to competition with other NBA prospects. Even so, he has the tools to be successful at the next level.
Stats are pretty much irrelevant in his case, but based on skill set, Simons has the athleticism to be part of an NBA back court and the shooting ability to help solve Atlanta’s offensive woes almost immediately. He can also play defense, which is a major bonus for a team who struggles on the perimeter.
