2. St. Bonaventure Bonnies

2017-18 season record and seed: 26-8 (14-4) – No. 11 seed

If you consider that both Rhode Island and Nevada were expected to win their respective conference tournaments, St. Bonaventure was the only true mid-major at-large team in the last NCAA Tournament. It’s not that likely to repeat for them, with star guards Matt Mobley and Jalen Adams both graduating.

Don’t underestimate the Bonnies though, as Courtney Stockard and former UNLV transfer Jalen Poyser are primed to become standouts themselves. The A-10 doesn’t have a heavyweight like they did this past season, so St. Bonaventure will have a shot. But losing two guys who averaged 18+ ppg is hard for 99% of teams to replace normally.

1. Oklahoma Sooners

2017-18 season record and seed: 18-14 (8-10) – No. 10 seed

It was widely viewed that Trae Young singlehandedly carried the Sooners to the NCAA Tournament, so with him leaving they’ll be taking a giant step back. Problem is, that step back could look like the Oklahoma team from two years ago when they finished with 12 total wins.

The good news is that Lon Kruger and staff have been busy in the market, getting a pair of grad transfer guards for next season. Neither of them is as good as Young, so it’ll have to take a massive group effort to keep the team in contention. The Big 12 won’t be doing them any favors either, so it’s going to be a minor miracle to see Oklahoma in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
