How does the program move forward at point guard?

Obviously, most of the options mentioned to this point in the article are short-term solutions. With that being said, the program needs to shift the direction of their recruiting strategy this offseason. Lathon was expected to be the point guard of the future and thus that position may have taken a backseat to bigger needs since his commitment. Now that the news has dropped, it would not be a surprise to see the program reach out to class of 2019 guards.

Of the 10 scholarship offers that the Wildcats have already doled out to 2019 recruits, only one of them was to a true point guard. This is top-100 guard Kira Lewis. Standing at 6’3″ from Alabama, he is one of the hottest prospects in the country, with consideration from schools such as Kentucky. In addition, all five crystal ball predictions for Lewis on 247Sports currently lean in the direction of in-state Alabama.

The other three guards that Northwestern seem to be interested in are either of the combo or shooting variety. One of these, top-50 Zach Harvey, has already received a scholarship offer. However, Kansas looks to be the clear frontrunner in his recruitment. Combo guard Ryan Greer and shooting guard Paxson Wojcik are the other two guards currently being sought-after by the Wildcats. Both of them rank outside of the top-200 in the class and are yet to have any clear favorites.

With the situation as it is, Northwestern could really use another point guard or even two of them. This means that the program will likely be active this summer in scouting and pursuing some guards that are not currently mentioned in this article. It could be a busy summer for the Wildcats as they look to figure out the future of the point guard position.
