10. SO Isaiah Maurice – Memphis Tigers

2017-18 stats: 12.9 ppg and 5.9 rpg at South Plains College

First-year head coach Penny Hardaway gets to return his top four scorers from last year’s team. That sets him up for early success, but he also needs to prepare for the 2019-20 season once they depart.

That’s where Maurice comes in. The 6’10 big man not only provides a solid inside presence with an ability to pick and pop, but he’ll be a junior with what’s expected to be a highly touted 2019 class full of perimeter players coming in. He might not start with Mike Parks Jr. still around, but look for Maurice to have an immediate impact with the Tigers coming up.

9. Jaime Echenique – Wichita State Shockers

2017-18 stats: 9.2 ppg and 5.4 rpg at Trinity Valley Community College

Wichita State will only have two rotation players returning from a 25-win team a season ago. A huge recruiting class is coming in, including Echenique who’ll be a junior when he arrives.

At 6’11 and 220 pounds, this JUCO will provide much-needed beef and the kind of traditional low post scoring big man coach Gregg Marshall is accustomed to working with. Echenique will form a starting frontcourt with Markis McDuffie, who isn’t the best rebounder. For the Shockers’ sake, he’ll have to be an instant impact player.
