WCC Basketball: Preseason rankings for 2018-19
By Connor Hope
Not only are the Gonzaga Bulldogs the best team in the WCC, they are quite possible the best team in the country. This could be the best roster Mark Few has ever had, and their versatility will help them with the matchup problems they have had in the past.
Heading into the 2018-19 season, the Bulldogs will easily run 10- or 11-deep, with high-level players at every position.
At the point position, the Zags have two seniors in Josh Perkins and Geno Crandall, both of whom can score and distribute effectively. While either player can facilitate the offense on their own, don’t be surprised if Few decides to play both together.
Taking another starting backcourt position is WCC Freshman of the Year Zach Norvell, who could become the Zags top scoring option if he continues to improve. Off the bench, Joel Ayayi, will be able to ease into his role on the team, after redshirting last season to prepare for his transition into the NCAA.
Gonzaga will also have some solid wings on the bench in Corey Kispert and Jeremy Jones. Kispert is an excellent offensive player who was starting last season before enduring an injury that moved him to the bench. Jones, while not an elite scorer, can provide the Zags with valuable defense when needed.
With all the strengths of their backcourt, it is the frontcourt that will push the Zags over the top. In fact, Rui Hachimura, Killian Tillie, Brandon Clarke, Filip Petrusev and Jacob Larsen may be the best frontcourt in the NCAA.

Mark Few has a roster which has multiple stars, any of whom could win the WCC Player of the Year and compete for a spot on an All-American Roster. Don’t be surprised if Gonzaga is still playing in April.
