Garrett Luinstra – Lawrence, KS

Guard | 6-foot-2 | 155 lbs | Not Ranked (Walk-On)

Garrett Luinstra is a Jayhawk through and through. A local kid who grew up as a Kansas fan, Luinstra will be joining the team as a walk-on in this 2018 recruiting class. Although he is unranked, he has plenty of game and can be someone who helps the rest of the team grow in practice if he is not getting minutes during the regular season.

A 6-foot-2 guard, Luinstra only played two years of varsity ball in high school but had a really good run. He is a crafty scorer with plenty of shooting ability from beyond the arc as well as some creativity around the basket. Luinstra can work both with and without the ball and he does an excellent job finishing off of back-cuts. He has a reasonably tight handle and is able to consistently knock down jumpers off of his step-back.

With his size and style of play, it is possible that Luinstra might have ended up on scholarship at a low-to-mid-major school had he not elected to walk-on at KU. Regardless, though, he will be suiting up in a Jayhawks uniform and his shooting should bring a nice element to practice.
