Wright State Basketball: In-Depth Look at Sophomore Center Loudon Love
By Bryan Mauro
Why You Should Know Love
For those fans who love old school players, Love is exactly that. He is a traditional post player who loves roaming the paint and playing with his back to the basket. The sophomore is an extremely skilled traditional big man who allows you to do many different things on defense. Love is not going to hurt anyone from beyond the three-point line, as he only had one attempt last year. When given the ball in the paint he was able to convert over 50% of his shot attempts. He is efficient inside.
The center while naturally gifted, he is blessed with something else, that can not be coached. That nonfactor is the overall size Love has. He is listed at 6’9” and 275 pounds. This aspect helps him in the paint as he is able to throw his body around. There are not a lot of players in the Division 1 ranks who have the sheer size that Love has. Watching the center play, it becomes evident quickly that not only is he a large player he is also extremely athletic.
The sophomore center is a great offensive player, but the one aspect of his game which sets him apart from the rest is his ability to rebound. Last year he was able to haul in 9.5 rebounds on the year to go along with 12.9 points. The double-double average is also something that not many players in the Division 1 ranks can claim. Sure, lots of players record double-double’s on the stat sheet, but few can average a double-double the whole year. The sophomore center and his year of experience, plus playing on the biggest stage the game has to offer, is going to help him take his game to another level.
