Dec. 1 vs. Kansas State

Last Year: 25-11 (10-8 Big 12)
NCAA Tournament: 9 seed, Elite Eight
2018-19 Projection: 25th

I touched on the Kansas State matchup after the news was originally reported on May 2, when much of the Wildcats’ season depended on Barry Brown’s decision to return for his senior season or to stay in the NBA Draft. Well, Brown is sticking around, meaning Bruce Weber’s Wildcats should be a force to be reckoned with in the Big 12.

Dean Wade is the other star to watch on the K-State roster. Wade is a 6-foot-8 forward who took a big leap as a junior, averaging 16.2 points and 6.2 rebounds on 55-44-75 percent shooting. He also tacked on another 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. His do-it-all efficiency matches up nicely with Marquette’s Sam Hauser.

This game is sure to have plenty of offensive fireworks with Brown and Markus Howard up top and Wade and Hauser on the wing. Brown and Wade combined for 32.1 points per contest last season, compared to 34.5 for Howard and Hauser. If those two duos cancel each other out as expected, then whichever role player steps up could swing the game. With Marquette at home in front of the Forum Frenzy (I’m workshopping some names here), look for Sacar Anim, Joey Hauser, Cain to make the difference.
