3. Sam Hauser, Marquette

2017-18: 14.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.9 apg, 49.9/48.7/83.6 percent shooting

His teammates typically garner more attention, but Hauser has quickly established himself as one of the best forwards in the nation. He is an indispensable piece of the Marquette puzzle, leading the Golden Eagles in minutes each of his first two seasons, as well as all players in three-point percentage (47.3 percent, min. 300 attempts).

Hauser’s only goal this season should be to shoot more. He has displayed incredible efficiency throughout his career, and is more than capable of going off when given the chance. Hauser scored at least 20 points eight times as a sophomore, though he still didn’t unleash his full offensive fury, as he never took more than 17 shots in a game (11-17 in a 30-point performance at Butler). While he doesn’t need to hijack the offense every night, no Marquette coach, player, or fan would be upset if Hauser occasionally heaved 20-plus shots.

Last year, Marquette was 13-4 when Hauser took at least 11 shots, but collapsed to just 8-10 when Hauser posted 10 or fewer attempts. It’s admirable to see him work within the flow of the offense, but the team will improve if Hauser takes charge more often.
