North Carolina Basketball: Top 3 options for starting point guard in 2018-19
Seventh Woods
Seventh Woods was the number one player in the state of South Carolina coming out of high school. His highlights on YouTube of when he was in high school were well watched. His highlights of when he was 14 years old have 15 million views.
There is also a video of him dunking when he was 11 years old at the AAU Nationals. He had a dunk on an opposing player that got him the number one play on ESPN’s Sportscenter. His vertical leaping ability what was easy to notice about him in high school. He was able to sky for blocks and explode to the hole for thunderous dunks.
In the college ranks his game has not translated. He was a freshman on the National title team in 2016-17 but he was not a major factor in terms of putting points on the board. Last year he missed 16 games due to a stress fracture in his right foot. He was only able to play 20 games after playing 40 games his freshman year.
Woods for his career has only averaged 1.4 points and 1.2 assists per game but due to Berry graduating and going to the NBA a chance for him to have a bigger impact has opened up. The Tar Heels have benefited from improving their players and having their best players be experienced players. Luke Maye and Kenny Williams are players that were in Woods’ shoes last year. They had career seasons in their Junior year.
For Woods, he hopes to have this kind of season. Going with Woods seems to be the best bet as he will essentially be the next man up. He has been in this offense for two seasons and he will be able to give Williams some comfort at the point guard position.
