Big Ten Basketball: Top 10 recruits joining the conference in 2018-19
Brandon Johns, Michigan
Forward | 6-foot-8 | 225 lbs | No. 70 overall
The idea of immediate contributors will be a theme throughout this piece. In Brandon Johns, Michigan is getting an excellent offensive player who can make an impact right away for the program either as a starter or as a reserve. Considering the departure of star forward Moritz Wagner this offseason (among others), the Wolverines will have a lot of minutes and production to replace.
In regards to Johns’ playing style, he projects as a modern forward with his ability to operate in the post as well as stretch the floor out to 3-point range. Michigan basketball under head coach John Beilein has thrived thanks to stretch bigs and Johns will fit that mold. When fed the ball in the post, Johns can use a variety of moves to create an opening for a finish around the basket. In addition, he is more than capable of knocking down the open mid-range or 3-point shot.
Furthermore, it should not be too difficult for him to play significant minutes right away due to his build and athleticism. He runs the floor quite well, can rise up for emphatic dunks, and also shows the quickness and strength to match up with most forwards right away.
