Who “qualifies” as a frontcourt player?

This is an incredibly important part of the upcoming rankings because it ultimately explains how I compiled the list. Traditionally there are five positions on the court –  point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center. Frontcourts would consist of the final three positions.

That’s where it gets tricky, mainly the “small forwards”. Because of how teams use their guards, many of them play the three-spot on the court. To be clear, this list will not take into account how teams utilize their players, only what their natural positions are. Therefore, these following players and others like them won’t be involved when considering the respective teams:

  • Zach Norvell – Gonzaga
  • Caleb and Cody Martin – Nevada
  • Quinndary Weatherspoon – Mississippi State
  • Lagerald Vick – Kansas
  • Kerwin Roach Jr. – Texas
  • Josh Langford – Michigan State

On the other hand, there are small forwards who operate out on the perimeter and have good ball handling skills. But unlike the players above who’re natural guards, these upcoming athletes are truly forwards who’ll be accounted for.

  • Xavier Sneed – Kansas State
  • Admiral Schofield – Tennessee
  • DeAndre Hunter – Virginia

Of course, this is solely my opinion of who constitutes a small forward and who doesn’t. As the reader, you’re more than welcomed to disagree and let me know who you’d include and how it would affect the rankings.
