8. Oklahoma Sooners

Between the success of guard development by Sooners Head Coach Lon Kruger and the stunning season that top-5 NBA Draft pick Trae Young had, it’s not too surprising that another elite point guard would be interested in joining them. The Sooners will need Ellis too, after settling for a pair of stop-gap grad transfers to fill the void.

That being said, the odds are low that he’ll go from the west coast to a program that’s not expected to be a tournament team in the near future barring another historical individual performance. Besides, Oklahoma has a couple of point guards coming in anyways, including three-star Jamal Bieniemy for this upcoming season and top-35 guard commit De’Vion Harmon, who plays a similar style to Ellis. It’s the rest of the roster that looks concerning for the Sooners.

7. Georgia Tech

Josh Pastner and the Yellow Jackets have been after Ellis the entire time and it may pull off. But I don’t see the fit for the guard compared to the others for multiple reasons. First off, Georgia Tech already has their backcourt for the future in rising sophomore Jose Alvarado and top-50 freshman guard Michael Devoe. Unless Ellis joins and forms an extremely small three-guard lineup on the court.

Then there’s the winning aspect. Georgia Tech is much closer to Pittsburgh and Wake Forest in the bottom of the ACC than they are to the NCAA Tournament. With a host of projected tournament teams already after him, would Ellis leave San Diego for the Yellow Jackets?
