6. Oregon Ducks

Ellis would look great in those nice green uniforms for Dana Altman and the Ducks, especially after all the four and five-star forwards he’s been able to recruit. They’ve been one of the best programs out west and doesn’t appear to be going back anytime soon.

The one glaring issue in this recruitment is the point guard situation. Oregon and Georgia Tech are the only teams projected to return their starting point guards for 2019-20, and Payton Pritchard of the Ducks is one of the best in the nation. Top-40 guard Will Richardson is an incoming freshman and Victor Bailey is also expected to still be around. There are other heavyweight programs who can guarantee Ellis more playing time to start out, giving Oregon a disadvantage in the fall.

5. Memphis Tigers

New head coach Penny Hardaway has made waves in just a short time as the Tigers’ new leader, gathering up some top-tier talent that hasn’t come to the program since John Calipari was around. They brought in four-star guards Antwann Jones and Tyler Harris in the 2018 class, a sign of things to come.

The 2019 class could be really special besides Ellis, with top-3 recruit James Wiseman seriously considering the Tigers. Same goes with DJ Jeffries, who decommitted from Kentucky this offseason. I still think Ellis will ultimately stay out west but if he does head east, it’ll be for Memphis who’ll be looking for their point guard of the future once Jeremiah Martin graduates.
