Point Guard
Minutes Allocated (40 total): Hassani Gravett (26), Tre Campbell (12), and TJ Moss (2)
Despite the overall struggles of the perimeter last season for South Carolina, the emergence of Gravett as a starter was a bright spot that the program can use for the future. After playing little as a freshman, the 6’1 guard did much better in year-two as an all-around player.
Although he was inconsistent from a scoring perspective (seven total games of double-figure scoring), Gravett was a solid passer and great rebounder out of the point guard position. He even pulled down a career-high 10 boards along with seven points/assists in a win at Florida International. With (hopefully) better surrounding guards alongside him, Gravett’s overall production will increase his junior season.
Last season Gravett was the only true ball handler for the Gamecocks, with the offense struggling even worse once he went to the bench. The team will have some depth at the point guard position with Campbell, a grad transfer from Georgetown. He started 20 games in the 2015-16 season but shot just 31% from the field.
He doesn’t add a tremendous amount of value from an offensive standpoint but Campbell is a solid defender and can facilitate the offense when Gravett is on the bench.
