Brandon Williams – Encino, CA
Guard | 6-foot-2 | 190 lbs | No. 34 overall
One of the top point guards in the entire 2018 recruiting class, you can expect that Brandon Williams will play a major role right away for Arizona. While there are a couple of other point guards on the roster in Alex Barcello and Justin Coleman (Samford grad transfer), Williams will still see plenty of action either as the starter or a major contributor off the bench. An extremely impressive all-around guard ranked in the top-50 of the class, Williams is the crowning jewel of this class.
Despite suffering a knee injury that caused him to miss his entire junior season and the AAU circuit that followed, Williams returned to form as a senior to prove his abilities. During his final high school season, the 6-foot-2 guard filled up the stat sheet to the tune of 24.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. From an efficiency standpoint, he posted shooting slashes of .465/.297/.799.
With long arms and elite athleticism, Williams projects as an elite two-way player. He can score with the best of them thanks to an awesome first step and creative finishing moves around the basket. When Williams is able to get out and run in transition, he can be extremely dangerous both as a scorer and playmaker.
This class might not be on par with some of Arizona’s in the past but it is still very talented. With these three players joining the program, Arizona basketball still looks capable of competing for an NCAA Tournament bid. Will head coach Sean Miller be able to lead the Wildcats to the dance for the seventh consecutive year?
