Projected starters

Jagan Mosely

The point guard position is up for grabs and several players will likely start at the position throughout the course of the season, but Mosely figures to get the first crack at it. The 6-3, 205-pounder is the only returning player who saw more than a few minutes at the position last year and is the team’s leading returning assist man (2.9 apg). A junior, Mosely should provide a steady hand right off the bat. He played both shooting guard and small forward for the Hoyas last year and Ewing is sure to utilize that versatility again.

Jahvon Blair

Blair finished his freshman season as Georgetown’s starting two-guard and should finish there again. The 6-3, 190-pounder is more slasher than a shooter at this point in his development (only 32.2 percent from three last season) but has shown the ability to be one of Georgetown’s key offensive threats. He recorded seven games with at least 15 points, six of which came in conference play. Georgetown needs Blair to become a more consistent secondary scoring option to take some of the burden off of Govan.

Kaleb Johnson

Johnson had a limited role last year but should see a significant increase. He saw minutes at three different positions and had some success, averaging 7.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, but faded away late in the season. Only two of this 10 double-figure scoring games came after the calendar flipped to 2018. With more scoring prowess coming from the freshman class, this rising senior will be focused on a more defensive-focused role. His 2.8 block rate was second on the Hoyas last year.

Jamorko Pickett

Pickett played both forward positions last year, primarily small forward, but will likely be forced to occupy the four spot because of Georgetown’s lack of size. According to KenPom, Pickett is the Hoyas’ second-biggest returning contributor and is their second returning leading scorer (9.6 ppg). His ability to stretch the opposing defense is key to Georgetown’s attack as he made nearly two threes per game a year ago. He’ll add a nice stretch four element to this athletic lineup.

Jessie Govan

We touched on this a little bit earlier but Govan is set to be a star. He’s one of the best big men in the entire country and showed just how valuable he is to the Hoyas as he led them in points, rebounds, and blocks a year ago. While Govan is a very good player, he wasn’t the kind of player who could elevate the players around him. Now, the Hoyas are counting on him to become a great player. He’s solid in the post and is improving his shooting touch, and a full offseason of tutelage under Ewing should do great things for him. Expect Govan to be even better than he was a year ago.
