MEAC Basketball: Preseason rankings for 2018-19
11. Delaware State Hornets
The Delaware State Hornets are another team on the verge of a culture change. After posting a 4-28 record in 2017-18 and going 2-14 in the MEAC, head coach Keith Walker was fired from his post at head coach. His replacement, Eric Skeeters, will take over after spending two seasons as an assistant coach for the UMBC Retrievers. They pulled off a historic upset over the Virginia Cavaliers in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Skeeters will have some leadership back on the roster in 2018-19 in the form of senior guard Kobe Gantz. Gantz played in only six games (13.5 points per game) during the regular season last year before tearing his ACL and missing the rest of the season.
The Hornets will have three seniors in the rotation led by big man Simon Okolue who put up 11.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest last season. There could be a lot of growing pains for the Hornets, especially in non-conference play. Last season, they lost 27 straight games from Nov. 27, 2017 up until Feb. 19, 2018. Skeeters will have his work cut out for him in 2018-19 with just 10 players listed on the roster for the upcoming season currently.
