Big East Basketball: 2019 recruiting needs for each program
Butler Bulldogs
Biggest need: Keeping options open.
It may still be early in his coaching career with Butler but LaVall Jordan is off to a quality start on the recruiting trail. Despite the idea that his first recruiting class, 2018, was not spectacular (No. 103 overall), he is off to a hot start this season. He already has two players committed and they seem to be logical replacements for the graduating seniors after this season in guard Paul Jorgensen and center Nate Fowler. The class currently ranks No. 23 in the nation.

Leading the way in this duo is clearly Khalif Battle, a top-100 player in the class oozing with potential. With above-average size (6-foot-4) at guard, superb athleticism, and a deadeye shooting stroke, Battle projects as a major contributor right away for the Bulldogs. Aaron Thompson and Kamar Baldwin will be the presumed starting backcourt again in 2019-20 but Battle should provide immediate depth at guard before taking on a starring role later in his career.
Additionally, local big man John-Michael Mulloy (No. 290 overall) is the other commit in the class. He might not be as highly-touted as Battle but he is a mobile big man that can impact the game in a number of ways. Mulloy does not project as a high-volume scorer but he plays with tons of energy and could be a strong defender as long as he adds some strength.
Considering how well these commits should fill the team’s holes for 2019-20, Butler does not have any remaining needs to fill before next season. This does not mean, though, that Coach Jordan and Co. are done recruiting 2019 prospects. The program has, for the most part, moved onto 2020 recruits but, as always, it is important for the coaching staff to stay active on the recruiting trail in case of transfers or players leaving early for the NBA Draft.
