3. March fallout

Yes, we’re talking postseason on the first day of college basketball. Let the madness of March descend upon us all!

We’ll start with the positive, which is Florida State. Entering the season, they were projected to be a 6-seed, a tiny bit low considering their preseason AP poll ranking.

While there weren’t any major upsets on Tuesday, the Seminoles acquitted themselves as a Top 15 outlet in the country, warranting something more along the lines of a 3-seed or 4-seed.

They’ll have more chances to prove themselves this month with games against Purdue and a likely game against LSU in the AdvoCare Invitational.

Guess who else was projected to be a 6-seed? That’s right, the Florida Gators!

They, on the other hand, showed the makings of a bubble team come March, if that. Getting blown out is definitely worse than losing a close one to a rival and frankly, the Gators were lucky to cut the deficit to 21 during garbage time.

The Gators have solid non-conference opponents, but aren’t expected to play any elite teams, depending on how the Battle 4 Atlantis shakes out. It’s possible the Seminoles will be the best team they play outside of Kentucky and Tennessee all season.

If that’s the case, Florida better start winning at a high clip.
