Indiana Basketball: 2018-19 holiday wishlist for the Hoosiers
5. Better free throw shooting
The last gift that the Hoosiers should ask for on Christmas morning should be a fix to their problems at the free throw line. Indiana shoots a putrid 64.3% from the charity stripe; only Rutgers shoots it worse in the Big Ten and only 51 other teams in college basketball shoot it at a worse clip than Indiana. This is not a good combination for Indiana as they are just outside the top0100 in terms of attempts and middle of the pack nationally when it comes to free throws made.
The top free throw shooter for the Hoosiers is Langford, who has had 74 attempts at the line and made 50 of them. No other player has more than the 36 that Morgan has attempted and he shoots it at 58%. In fact, Langford, Morgan, and Smith have 144 of the team’s 227 attempts at the line but shoot just 64% as a threesome and the rest of the roster shoots just 65%.
If Indiana struggles in finding their offense on the road, they are destined to be in a lot of close Big Ten games and fixing their problems at the free throw line will be paramount to their success going forward.
