NCAA Basketball: Best player from each conference entering January 2019
Sun Belt: D’Marcus Simonds, Georgia State
Georgia State is no stranger to having some of the top players in the Sun Belt, and they have easily the best player this season, as junior guard D’Marcus Simonds is a hot commodity on most draft big boards and mock drafts.
Simonds is averaging 20 points per game, and was a common name in almost every NBA first round mock draft, before pulling out of the draft after his sophomore season. Simonds hasn’t taken a step back in his junior season, and has seemingly raised his draft stock with another stellar season.
His Panthers are the favorites to win the Sun Belt, and after coming up short last season, Simonds will likely have the chance to perform in front of the country in the NCAA tournament come March, and deservedly so.
Summit League: Mike Daum, South Dakota State
Mike Daum is about as much of a household name as is possible when it comes to mid major players, as the South Dakota State superstar has been putting up big numbers throughout his college career.
The senior forward is enjoying a good encore to his college career this season, averaging 24.6 points per game and 11 rebounds per game. His Jackrabbits earned an NCAA tournament berth s a 12 seed last season, and are a good bet to repeat that this time around, as they are the clear favorites in the Summit League.
Daum is one of the top players in the country, and has been in the past. He makes South Dakota State a real cinderella pick if they can make it to the NCAA tournament, and maybe they’ll be able to make a run this season after falling short in the first round last season.
