Best Performance, Team – New Mexico Lobos

New Mexico 85 Nevada 58. What a shocking blowout. Yes, the Pit is a tough place to play and Nex Mexico is a solid team, but no one expected the Lobos to do THAT. Down go Nevada’s dreams of running the table.

Senior Anthony Mathis turned in a killer performance to help take down the Wolf Pack. He dropped 27-6-5, all season high’s for him. What a night for Mathis.

Vance Jackson nearly messed around and got a triple double (18-10-7), and Makuach Maluach added 14 and 6.

Can the Mountain West be a two-bid league? Fresno State and Utah State certainly think they can join Nevada in the tournament. And if second tier teams like New Mexico, UNLV, San Diego State, and Boise State can play this like this until March, there might be some validity to the thought.

Honorable mention goes to California Baptist for a strong 82-76 win on the road over WAC top dog New Mexico State.
