Team to watch: Marquette Golden Eagles

Marquette is on a serious roll right now. Since dropping their first conference game to St. John’s, the Golden Eagles have won six straight games to stand in second place in the Big East. Additionally, they have now won 13 of their last 14 games to reach the AP top-25. They might not be rated extremely high by quality metrics but this team knows how to win close games. With Markus Howard leading the way and a strong supporting case, there is a legit chance that Marquette snags a protected seed in the Big Dance.

Mid-major of note: VCU Rams

Despite dropping their last game to Rhode Island on the road, VCU is clearly one of the best mid-majors in the country. They have played at an extremely high level so far this season and could even be in contention for an at-large bid if they do not win the Atlantic 10 conference tournament. Head coach Mike Rhoades has really done a nice job with this roster on the whole. Their defense is superb.
