2. Virginia Cavaliers

Virginia has…umm…flown under the radar so far this season? I know that that sounds silly given the fact that I have them at No. 2 in these rankings but it just might be true. Due to the fact that the Cavaliers have lost their two biggest games of the year (vs. Duke and at Duke…lol) and that they play at a slow pace, it seems as though their media coverage has been limited. With that said, though, this is not the team that anyone should take lightly. With Ty Jerome, Kyle Guy, and DeAndre Hunter roaming the floor, this team has plenty of offensive firepower compared to some past years and their defense is just as elite.

1. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Welcome to the top spot, Gonzaga! I know that this might result in a *groan* from those who argue that they do not play a “real schedule” but it is just the right choice at this point in time. The Bulldogs are simply on a whole different level from some of their prior teams this year. For starters, their non-conference schedule was quite rigorous and they snagged their fair share of strong wins then. Additionally, though, they are rolling through conference play as if their opponents are actually JV high school teams rather than mid-majors with several wins over power conference teams. Take, for example, Gonzaga’s 48-point romping of an NCAA Tournament bubble team in Saint Mary’s. Not many teams can be as consistently dominant as Gonzaga has been so far this season and there should be taken very…very…very seriously.

That concludes this edition of my top-25+ power rankings. I hope that you enjoyed and that your favorite team was able to make the cut. If not, time is running out to make a run at the rankings. Hopefully your team catches fire down the stretch to secure a spot.
