UCF Knights

UCF has sat relatively firmly on the bubble throughout this season but finally moved into strong position over this past week. I am not quite going to go as far as to say that they are a lock for the Big Dance but they were clearly one of the biggest winners of the week. Just over the past few days, the Knights went on the road and secured back-to-back big-time wins over rivals USF and then conference-leader Houston.

With how small the bubble is this season, these two wins should put UCF in safe position to make the dance. And this is saying something considering I have been quite low on their resume throughout this season due to a lack of top wins. When on their game, the Knights are one of the best teams in the nation and quality rankings have backed this up quite a bit all year long. Instead of once sitting right on the NCAA Tournament cutline, the Knights are now staring down a potential single-digit seed.

UCF was one of my preseason favorites to win American and, while they haven’t quite hit those expectations, the team is starting to show just what makes them special. The Knights now stand at 22-6 (12-4 AAC) on the season and they have been led by the superb trio of B.J. Taylor (16.3 points, 3.4 assists), Aubrey Dawkins (15.1 points, 5.0 rebounds), and Tacko Fall (11.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.5 blocks). This will be a dangerous team in March.
