Texas Is In Trouble

Just last week it seemed as if Texas had nearly locked up an NCAA Tournament berth but now it seems as if that may not be the case. They picked up a blowout win over Iowa State but after losing by double digits twice this week it shows they still have work to do.

They started the week on Monday losing at Texas Tech, 51-70. That wasn’t the end of the world though as the Red Raiders have been playing so well but it was the loss on Saturday that hurts and could keep them out of the NCAA Tournament.

They came home on Saturday at home against a TCU team that had been really struggling. The Horned Frogs had lost six of their last seven games and they desperately needed a win and they played like it. The Longhorns had absolutely no answer for Desmond Bane in this game and they weren’t able to make enough shots offensively to keep pace.

Jase Febres is a guy who has been big for them in Kerwin Roach‘s absence but this week he really struggled, going just 1-15 from the field, including 0-10 from three-point range for a total of just four points. If Roach is unable to return for the Big 12 Tournament they will need Febres to play much better than he did this week.

Texas will have a big game on Thursday night against Kansas. They are in most bracketologists field but if they lose that game they will finish with just a 16-16 record. No matter what their resume says that’s a tough record to have to earn an at-large bid. If they want to feel good about their chances to make the NCAA Tournament, they likely want to win two games in the Big 12 Tournament next week.
