March Madness: 10 best Point Guards in the 2019 NCAA Tournament
By Logan Butts
Cody Martin – Nevada
The less heralded of Nevada’s Martin twins, Cody is a more well-rounded player than his brother Caleb, the higher-scoring player of the two.
Cody averages 11.7-4.5-5.1-1.3 steals per game for the Wolf Pack, but perhaps most importantly he conducts the deeply talented but not always in sync symphony that is Nevada’s offense. If Martin can help keep everything in order, the Wolf Pack could play into the second weekend.
Tremont Waters – LSU
Waters’ performance is going to be all the more important with all the off-the-court trouble that’s currently hanging over LSU‘s collective heads.
The sophomore point guard is the leading scorer (15.1) and playmaker (5.9) for a relatively young Tigers squad. He also fronts the LSU defense with 3.0 steals per outing, second-best in the nation.
Carsen Edwards – Purdue
Edwards is the Big Ten’s leading scorer and the second-highest scoring Power conference player in the nation, behind Markus Howard. He has 23 20-point games and five 30-point games, which includes his 40-point outburst at Texas.
Edwards and Winston being in the same conference gives the Big Ten the top point guard one-two punch of any league. Both are destined for a couple of One Shining Moment inspiring performances in the next three weeks.
