Texas A&M Aggies

Chris Harris Jr. was originally committed to play for Texas A&M while Billy Kennedy was the head coach at the program. And while Harris reopened his recruitment following the program’s decision to fire Coach Kennedy, he has been in contact with the new staff at the school. Former Marquette and Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams is now the leader of the Aggies and he has definitely been active in hoping to retain Harris as he would be a building piece for the future.

Unlike the other two programs on this list, Texas A&M does not own a tremendous recruiting class at the moment. In fact, even though the program still holds three commitments, none of them are players ranked in the nation’s top-200. This is as a result of the fact that three players, including Harris, de-committed as a result of Coach Kennedy’s firing. If, though, Coach Williams is able to regain this commitment, Harris would become the star of the class and potentially the star of the team in the not-so-distant future.

It is important to mention, though, that it seems as though Harris’ connection with a coaching staff is vital in his recruitment. Upon de-committing, he stated that“I had built so much with the coaching staff. With the new coaching staff, whoever the person they’re trying to get, I haven’t talked to. I don’t know how they play. I just felt like it was a need for me to ask for my release.” Because of this, Coach Williams will need to make a very early impression on Harris in order to quickly land a commitment.

Texas A&M does not seem to be trending all that well in the recruitment at this point in time but Harris was committed for over a year. He already understands the school and team’s roster construction quite well. If Williams is able to make a strong impression, they could still regain the commitment.
