NCAA Basketball: Pivotal decisions in 2019 recruiting approaching
Cassius Stanley – SG – No. 29 overall
Schools Involved: Duke, Oregon, Kansas, UCLA
Commitment Date: Monday, April 22nd
One of the most athletic players in the class, Cassius Stanley has made his fair share of highlight reels over the past few seasons. An elite transition finisher with a high ceiling on the defensive end on the floor, Stanley projects as a monster talent at the collegiate level. At 6-foot-5, he boasts plenty of height to play on the wing and his length/athleticism allow him to function at just about any position defensively. He might not be the best shooter in the country but he can knock down trifectas and could be one of the more versatile incoming freshmen due to his two-way potential.
As a member of Team WhyNot on the EYBL circuit last summer, the talented guard averaged 15.8 points (.428/.256/.598), 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. Even though he was far from the most efficient player in the league, he still posted strong numbers and made his mark on the recruiting scene. Stanley has been highly-regarded by rankings services for the past few years and it is no surprise that he been targeted by some of the top programs in the nation.
In addition, Stanley has certainly made recruiting headlines as of late. Prior to his final high school season, he announced a final three of Oregon, Kansas, and UCLA. These programs were then viewed as the frontrunners throughout the last several months. Over the past few weeks, though, Duke has ramped up its recruitment of Stanley and that has resulted in some serious momentum. Stanley recently took an official visit to Durham and the last eight unlocked Crystal Ball predictions have gone in favor of Duke. (Duke fans reading this…imagine the Jones -> Stanley alley-oops that could be coming…)
Predictions are trending towards…Duke.
