Matthew Hurt – PF – No. 8 overall

Schools Involved: Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky

Commitment Date: Friday, April 19th

Matthew Hurt is one of the top remaining frontcourt options remaining in the class. A natural-born scorer with the ability to fill it up from anywhere on the court, many expect that Hurt will immediately take on a featured role offensively for any team that he chooses. At 6-foot-9 with a smooth outside shot, Hurt projects as a matchup nightmare for a lot of opponents. He has the ability to put the ball on the deck as well, making him all the more dangerous.

While playing for D1 Minnesota on the Adidas Gauntlet last summer, Hurt showed why he is ranked as a top-10 player in the class. He competed in 11 contests for the team and averaged 17.1 points (.584/.483/.700), 6.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He was also a dominant force during his final high school season as he torched every opponent en route to posting a ridiculous stat line of 36.8 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. Hurt was impossible to stop.

With regards to his recruitment, most experts agree that he seems to be leaning in favor of Duke. At this moment, the majority of Crystal Ball predictions are for the Blue Devils and that includes each of the last 10 unlocked picks. In my opinion, this would also be a perfect match. Duke lacked shooting during this past season and that could once again be the case in 2019-20. Hurt would help to fix that problem and he is also the prototypical modern power forward that would fit tremendously well alongside the rest of the frontcourt in Durham.

Predictions are trending towards…Duke.
