Vanderbilt Commodores

Head coach Jerry Stackhouse and staff haven’t wasted any time looking to fill the void on the recruiting trail. They’ve emerged as a finalist for the services of Desmond Cambridge Jr. which isn’t a bad deal.

The Commodores saw freshman Darius Garland have a productive 2018-19 season before going down with injury five games into the year. He produced 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game on 47.8 percent from 3-point land. Moving to Cambridge could be a similar step in that direction.

It helps that Cambridge’s hometown is also Nashville, Tenn. If the Commodores are pitching the closeness to home with the prospect of playing for a former NBA player, they’re certainly on the right track. It wouldn’t be a total shock to see Cambridge move from Providence, Rhode Island to a school in his hometown. His development would be something to keep an eye on as Stackhouse looks to return Vanderbilt to relevance.
