Expected longshots

Jalen Johnson – No. 3 overall

One of the top overall players in the class, it seems extremely unlikely that Jalen Johnson chooses Butler. The Dawgs offered him nearly an entire year ago and there has not been an indication that the program is still involved. Johnson will attract suitors from around the nation and seems likely to head to a blueblood, such as Duke, or stay home to play for Wisconsin. He stands at 6-foot-8 and boasts superb guard skills. Johnson will likely only spend one year at the college level.

Dawson Garcia – No. 30 overall

An elite 6-foot-11 big man, Butler offered Dawson Garcia last spring. Since then, though, his recruitment has really taken off as several other high majors have engaged and offered. Because of this, it seems as though the Dawgs have fallen behind and landing Garcia now belongs in the “longshot” category. To summarize his playing style, Garcia fits the mold of a modern big. He can stretch the floor, block shots, and passes well from a variety of situations.

Caleb Love – No. 33 overall

Caleb Love is one of the nation’s best point guards in the 2020 class. And while Butler is certainly interested in adding a lead guard in this class (more on that later), this one seems to be out of reach. The Dawgs offered in the middle of this past summer and the recruitment has died down over the past few months. Butler has not been mentioned with regards to Love by any major recruiting service in some time. Love is a superb score-first guard with the ability to light it up from anywhere on the court.

Ethan Morton – No. 43 overall

Ethan Morton might be playing in Butler, PA at the moment but it does not seem likely he would play college ball at a school of the same name. Widely regarded as one of the better wings in the class, Morton is a bit of a pass-first wing due to his unique court vision. He is also shooting the ball better and his overall game continues to develop. The Dawgs have not been seriously mentioned in his recruitment over the past few months and several other top programs are now interested. Butler offered almost an entire year ago.

According to Rivals’ Corey Evans, “the feel around him [Morton] is that it is more of a five-horse race between Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Pitt and Purdue.”

Micah Peavy – No. 62 overall

Another wing, Micah Peavy has been steadily rated as a top-75 prospect for a significant period of time. He was offered by Butler prior to this past high school season but the mutual interest did not last long. According to multiple reports, Peavy has already named a final five: Michigan, Texas Tech, LSU, TCU, and Houston. From a playing style perspective, Peavy has shown a ton of versatility, especially on the defensive end of the floor. He uses his 6-foot-7 frame quite well to switch defensively and can also operate in many different roles offensively.
