Cloudy interest

Michael Jefferson – Unranked

Michael Jefferson is one of the more unknown recruits on Butler’s radar. Even though the Dawgs offered him a scholarship in October 2018, there has not been a ton of information regarding his recruitment. He brings solid size to the wing at 6-foot-6 and boasts a relatively quick release and smooth stroke from beyond the arc.

He will be playing for Pro Skills (TX) on the EYBL circuit during the next few months. It will be interesting to see how interested Butler remains and how his recruitment picks up across the nation.

Carlos Johnson – No. 106 overall

Carlos “Scooby” Johnson is one of the few frontcourt players that Butler has offered so far in this class. But after extending that offer in August 2018, Butler’s interest has been hard to gauge. He is widely regarded as one of the top power forward prospects in the class at 6-foot-6 and has been targeted by several high-major programs. Due to the fact that he is from Great Lake State, though, many expect that Michigan and Michigan State are the frontrunners in his recruitment.

With one of the best motors in the class, Scooby has shown that he will be an immediately impactful player at the college level. He rebounds the ball well, defends at a high level, and there are very few holes in his game. Johnson is extremely versatile and will be an excellent addition to any team. It seems unlikely, though, that Butler will be able to land him.

Trey Galloway – No. 208 overall

A strong in-state prospect, Trey Galloway is an intriguing player due to his all-around game. He might not be ranked extremely high by recruiting services but he has attracted attention from all of the major programs in the state. Galloway is a strong perimeter shooter at 6-foot-3 and projects as a shooting guard at the college level. He has a better handle that many give him credit for and should continue to generate interest throughout the AAU circuit.

Butler offered Galloway last summer but there have been limited updates since then. It is hard to determine how much mutual interest there is in this recruitment but we will surely find out relatively soon. He is playing for Indiana Elite on the Gauntlet Series.

Santiago Vescovi – Unranked (Foreign Prospect)

Arguably the most intriguing player in this entire group of offered players, Santiago Vescovi has drawn interest from around the country. There are not many high-level point guards in the 2020 class but he certainly fits the bill. Vescovi has been extremely impressive in events throughout the beginning of this year and has acquired a ton of collegiate attention. According to 247Sports, here is what Vescovi had to say about his recruitment on April 11:

"“Right now they kind of stopped but Butler was talking to me. Also I heard that Kansas and Louisville were interested and then George Washington, Temple, St. Mary’s, was talking to me at the very beginning but then they stopped and now they talked to me again like two weeks ago and also BYU.”"

While this might not seem like a great sign, there is always the potential to resume this recruitment. Butler was obviously involved early and reigniting this relationship could occur. But because of this development, I am placing Vescovi in the “cloudy interest” section.
