NCAA Basketball: Analyzing the Hauser Bros’ fit at top landing spots
Michigan State Spartans
Never count out Michigan State. Head coach Tom Izzo is certainly one of the best leaders in the nation and they should not be overlooked with regards to this transfer recruitment. And while I certainly understand that they lack the scholarships needed to land both Hausers at this point (only one available), scholarships have the tendency to appear this time of year. This sometimes comes in the form of players electing to test their professional potential but most commonly occurs due to a player transferring out.
Michigan State has been one of the more consistent programs in the nation in recent years and they are also coming off of a Final Four appearance. Coach Izzo has widely been regarded as one of the best postseason leaders of the 21st century and the potential for making a deep run certainly has to be appealing. It is also important to mention that Michigan State was one of the finalists for Joey Hauser (younger brother) prior to his commitment to Marquette.
There is clearly still mutual interest between Michigan State and the Hausers but the issue of scholarships remains. Even with Nick Ward expected to stay in the NBA Draft, the Spartans would need to either A) open up another scholarship somehow or B) ask one of the Hausers to be a non-scholarship player for a year. Considering Option B seems unlikely, it will be interesting to see how this recruitment pans out for Michigan State.
Regardless, the interest is there and it would be intriguing to see the Hausers in East Lansing.
