No. 5 – Sean Miller (Arizona)

Why don’t I just start out with a bang with Sean Miller. He has been a very solid coach throughout his career so far. But, solid is the best adjective that I can use to describe him. He has never made a Final Four in his career, he has had back to back disappointing seasons by Arizona standards, struggled in the worst Power 5 conference this year, and to go along with all of that his only worse year was his first year where he went 16-15 only one less win than this year.

Starting with never making a Final Four, many coaches can say they have never made one but, many of them can also say they never had the teams that Miller has be able to coach. Just think to last year when they had DeAndre Ayton, Allonzo Trier, and Rawle Alkins. He has always had solid teams but, this team could not even win a game in the tournament losing to Buffalo in the first round. That is another thing, that almost carried into this season with the Wildcats going 17-15 in the worst by far Power 5 conference in college basketball.

His only worse season was in his first year coaching at Arizona. This may just be a step back that every coach faces, but most of those only face it for a year, Miller is now on his second. It makes me wonder how much the university will put up with.

He does have two of the top recruits coming in with Josh Green and Nico Mannion who showed out at the Nike Hoop Summit, and I think they are going to be key in saving his career at Arizona. Miller better watch out or he could find himself on the coaching hot seat.
