2019 NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Predicting landing spots for last top-100 players
By Josh Stevens
Sahvir Wheeler – #76
Sahvir Wheeler is a very fun recruit to watch. Given his small 5’8” frame when driving it can be somewhat of a struggle, but he is very crafty with the ball in his hands. He is one of the best passers in this class that also has a decent mid to long-range game. His size really hurt his recruitment as I believe if he was 5 or 6 inches taller he would be seeing offers from some of the blue bloods.
But, right now Wheeler reminds me of a recruit just last year in Jordan McCabe at West Virginia who is also smaller but a great passer. Right now Texas A&M looks to be running away with the Houston native but, he has just recently taken a recruiting visit to Iowa State so maybe that will play a factor in his recruitment.
Sahvir Wheeler would be quite a get for the Aggies as he would be the headliner in their recruiting class. If they are able to bring in some offensive help around him, and they have also signed three other 3-star recruits to go along with Wheeler. That could be just what the doctor order for Buzz Williams. For Iowa State, he may have to wait his time to see starter minutes. They are returning a good portion of their back-court minutes, to begin with. I think Wheeler wants to come right in and make an impact.
Prediction – Texas A&M
They are just too far ahead in my eyes Wheeler is from Texas and with the Aggies being the most involved in his recruitment I think they have him all but locked up. He could be the player to turn them back into what they had with Robert Williams and Tyler Davis.
