4. Kentucky Wildcats

Having Kentucky 4th on any list for a top recruit may seem crazy, but they already seem to have their starting backcourt locked up for next season with Ashton Hagans returning to school to go along with top-ten recruit Tyrese Maxey. Hampton would have a chance to come in and compete for a starting job, but he likely would prefer to go elsewhere with a larger guaranteed role.

You can never count of John Calipari when it comes to recruiting even though Mike Krzyzewski has been the one landing the top recruiting classes over the past few seasons. With Duke out of the mix that likely makes Kentucky the best team for next season on his list.

Playing on a national title contender is something all players would enjoy, but they also want a chance to shine in a key role. While it has been reported that Hampton would prefer to play alongside a high-caliber point guard he also wants a chance to be a star on a team which is likely why he is no longer considering Duke.

There is a chance that Hagans and Maxey could play alongside Hampton in an extra small lineup, but they also have multiple five-star recruits on the wing in Keion Brooks and Khalil Whitney who both are expected to play a large role this upcoming season.

The level of talent that Kentucky has will help them compete for championships just as they have throughout Calipari’s tenure. He has been there for three seasons which includes three Final Four appearances including winning the national championship in 2012. That type of success to go with one of the best programs in college basketball history makes Kentucky a legitimate option for RJ Hampton even if it isn’t very likely at the moment.
