NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing Jalen Wilson’s top options
Michigan Wolverines
Jalen Wilson initially committed to Michigan last year but elected to ask out of his LOI recently as a result of head coach John Beilein leaving to take an NBA job. This is obviously a critical blow to the future of the Wolverines as he is such a talented prospect but it is not time to count them out yet. For the time being, UM does not have a head coach but the right hire could lure the talented forward to recommit to playing in Ann Arbor.
Several high-profile names have been linked to Michigan as potential options for the open head coaching position and landing a top candidate soon could really help the program’s chances at Wilson still joining the team. As more time passes without a head coach, the Wolverines will have a tougher time selling a recommitment to Wilson.
In order to potentially land Wilson for a second time, I would expect that hiring a culture fit at head coach could go a long way. Coach Beilein built one of the best cultures in college basketball over the past few years and that could be a major reason for Wilson’s initial commitment. Hiring internally might be the best bet for winning this recruiting battle but there are a couple of former assistants who could also sell a similar pitch.
