Texas A&M Aggies

Grimes is from The Woodlands, TX, and had the Texas Longhorns as one of his finalists coming out of high school before committing to Kansas. The Jayhawks won’t release Grimes to transfer to another Big 12 school, so Texas is out of the question, but the only major conference state school outside of the conference could be an option.

Texas A&M has made a statement that they’re willing to invest in their basketball program by hiring Buzz Williams away from Virginia Tech, and it’s going to be somewhat of a rebuilding process after the Aggies went just 14-18 a year ago.

They are a program in need of talent upgrades and players that can generate excitement and momentum. Grimes would check both of those boxes and give Williams a major building block as he tries to secure a solid 2020 recruiting class.

TJ Starks is a two-year starter at point guard for the Aggies and will be a senior when Grimes is eligible to play, but he has been an inefficient shooter and dealt with turnover problems to this point in his career.

Grimes may very well earn ball-handling duties over him – and Williams prefers to have multiple ball-handlers on the floor anyways. He’d have the opportunity to be a star and the face of the program in College Station.
