Boogie Ellis – San Diego, CA

CG | 6-foot-2 | 165 lbs | No. 37 overall

One of the top scoring guards in the 2019 class, Boogie Ellis was initially a Duke commit. After reopening his recruitment, the Tigers jumped on the opportunity to land the talented shooter. At 6-foot-2, Ellis brings enough size to the off-guard position and is quite polished as a ball handler and scorer. While he shows some skill as a floor general, he is at his best when creating for himself. Ellis boasts an elite first step and excellent ball handling. This allows him to get into the lane with ease. While playing away from the ball, he is an incredibly dangerous 3-point threat.

Ellis might be the most gifted perimeter scorer in this class for Memphis while also possessing tenacious defensive qualities. With his speed and instincts, he can lock up most guards and is dedicated to sticking to his man like glue. He is ranked at No. 37 overall in the class and will likely be a starter from Day 1 in Memphis. It is hard to argue with his skill level as a scorer and defender.

This was an excellent snag for the coaching staff and a great fit. Ellis will give the next two players in this class plenty of room to operate in the paint as a superb floor spacer. In addition, when Memphis needs a bucket late in games, Ellis is the kind of shot-creator that can get that done. Go-to scorers in late-shot-clock situations are not always easy to find.
