Iowa Hawkeyes

The Hawkeyes are considered a real longshot in the recruitment of Suggs but could possibly get a visit down the road since head coach Fran McCaffery and the coaching staff has been after him for a long time.

Iowa is in good shape at the point guard position next season, led by rising senior Jordan Bohannon. He’s been the team’s starter at the spot for the last three seasons. But the program will need depth the following season. If Suggs pulls a surprise move and picks the Big Ten school, he’ll definitely become the new starter for the 2020-21 season.

But there’s another point guard that’ll be on the roster in Connor McCaffery, who is the son of the head coach. He averaged 3.0 apg last season in 19 mpg off the bench and has the potential to being the next star Hawkeye. But the younger McCaffery can’t play much off the ball and while Suggs can, will he be okay with that? The coach will make the move that’s best for his team but the style of play is a concern.

Coach McCaffery has another son coming in four-star forward Pat McCaffery along with a three-star point guard in Joe Toussaint. Assuming Joe Wieskamp and Luka Garza are still around, the Hawkeyes will have some talented pieces. But unless Suggs is guaranteed the primary ball handler position and get a visit, Iowa’s chances aren’t very good.
