Kerry Blackshear Jr. changing course?

Graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. has yet to make a decision despite making his last college visit a few weeks ago when he was on Kentucky’s campus. Not sure if his indecision really means anything except that he is taking his time. A decision is expected to come shortly. It is widely believed that Blackshear is choosing between Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas. While it wouldn’t be shocking at this point that Blackshear chooses either the Volunteers or Razorbacks, I still believe Kentucky is the place he will ultimately end up. There are also thoughts he could end up back with Virginia Tech, however, I don’t believe that will happen.

Other recruiting tidbits:

  • 6-1 junior college point guard Nick Edwards has transferred from Northwest Mississippi State to NJCAA USC Salkehatchie. He averaged 9.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists as a freshman. Edwards holds a DI offer from Chicago State.
  • 2020 7-0 center  Ryan Kalkbrenner (St. Louis, MO) received an offer from Purdue on June 25. The consensus four-star prospect is ranked in the top-100 in the class by 247Sports, 247Sports Composite and Rivals. He is still raw but possesses a lot of potential due to his length and wingspan. Kalkbrenner is athletic and can run floor and protect the rim. The Trinity Catholic product holds 16 total offers including from Pitt, Ohio State, Missouri, Stanford, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, and Illinois.
  • Penn State offered 2020 four-star combo guard Niels Lane (Freehold, NJ) on June 26. The 6-5 shooting guard has now picked up an offer in each of the last three days, receiving an overture from Miami (June 25) and Pitt (June 24). He now holds 20 offers. Penn State is expected to have three scholarships available in 2020 and has 35 open offers. The Nittany Lions offered 2020 6-9 forward Elijah Taylor on June 24.

  • Syracuse is believed to be the favorite to land four-star wing Andre Jackson (Albany, NY) with UConn and UCLA being the main competition for the Orange. However, SU is not expected to have any more scholarships available in 2020 after nabbing a commitment from four-star forward Woody Newton (Washington, D.C.).
